Voted Seattle Magazine “Top Doc” 2012

Every year Seattle Magazine surveys local doctors. They are asked questions like who they would trust with their loved ones' medical care. This is the third year that Dr. Michaelson of Northwest Weight Loss Surgery has been selected by his peers for this honor.

They asked thousands of local doctors this question:
To whom would you send a loved one for medical care?
Nearly 18,000 nominations came in and the “Top Doctors” have been announced in the current issue of Seattle Magazine.

The doctors on this list have been selected by their peers as among the very best in their fields; whether practicing in Bariatric Surgery, pediatrics or dozens of other board-certified specialties; these are the doctors other doctor’s turn to when they or their families need care.

Seattle magazine’s Top Doctors list was created in collaboration with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a health care research and information company founded in 1991 by a former medical-college board chairman and president to help guide consumers to America’s top doctors and top hospitals. Castle Connolly’s established survey and research process, under the direction of a medical doctor, involves tens of thousands of top doctors and the medical leadership of leading hospitals.

Several factors determine which names appear on the list, including the number of nominations a physician receives, the area of specialty, the number of practitioners in the specialty and geographic distribution. Castle Connolly’s also conducts a review of state licensure, as an added measure, Seattle magazine staff verified that all physicians listed are in good standing with the Washington State Department of Health.
Dr Michaelson completed his Ph.D. in Neuroendocrinology at the University of Illinois in 1991. While a member of the faculty at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine, he earned his M.D in 1995. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center in 2000, and went on to fellowship training in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, at the Texas Endosurgery Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Michaelson has performed over 5000 laparoscopic operations, and has trained over 300 surgeons in advanced laparoscopic techniques in the United States and China. Prior to devoting his practice to helping those suffering from obesity, Dr. Michaelson was on staff at Providence Everett Medical Center where he introduced many advanced laparoscopic operations. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery; Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and Seattle Surgical Society.
